Guruprasad Madhavan
Guruprasad Madhavan, Binghamton University graduate research assistant in the Clinical Science and Engineering Research Center and a Ph.D. candidate in bio-engineering, is an example of the kind of top notch students Binghamton University's graduate programs attract.
At Binghamton, Madhavan is currently working on the development of a non-invasive, non-pharmacologic, calf muscle pump stimulation system to improve lower limb blood and fluid circulation. This device has potential therapeutic implications in conditions such as chronic heart failure, dialysis-induced hypotension, chronic edema, osteoporosis, and mental health conditions including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease.
Already the recipient of the Young Technologist of the Year Award from the Technology Alliance of Central New York in Syracuse. Madhavan was recently named the winner of an international award offered by the The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). Madhaven won the IET's 2007 Mike Sargeant Award, which will be officially awarded on November 13 at the Marriott Grosvenor Hotel in Mayfair, London.
The IET is one of the world's leading professional societies for the engineering and technology community, with more than 150,000 members in 127 countries and has offices in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific. The Institution provides a global knowledge network to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and ideas and promotes the positive role of Science, Engineering and Technology in the world.
