Community Partners

Here's what some of our community think when they Think Binghamton University:

Mayor Matthew Ryan, City of Binghamton

Matt Ryan"When I think of Binghamton University, I think of educational excellence, community enrichment and regional innovation. Recognized as one of the nation's premier public universities, Binghamton University has an impressive commitment to integrating student education with community service. By focusing both on education and engagement, the University not only provides students an opportunity for meaningful discovery, but also enriches the lives of many city residents. And with the recent expansion into our downtown core, as well as the new Innovative Technologies Center, the University is poised to strengthen its role as a vital economic engine for our region and a significant source of innovation, creativity and leadership. We are truly fortunate to have such an excellent institution as a community partner."

John D. O'Neil, President/CEO, Lourdes Hospital

John O'Neil"When I think of Binghamton University, I think about their excellent academic reputation, their highly qualified professional teaching staff, the athletics program and, of course, the Decker School of Nursing. Binghamton University is a vital part of this community. As CEO of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, I am proud of our partnership with the Decker School of Nursing, and I can tell you that the quality of education provided to student nurses in that program is exceptional. The nurses who graduate from Binghamton University are prepared to be caring and competent nurses. On both a personal and professional level, I support Binghamton University and I believe that the University stands for quality education and truly shares a commitment to our community."

Matthew J. Salanger, President and Chief Executive Officer, United Health Services.

Matthew Salanger"We are very fortunate to have in our midst a resource like Binghamton University. The quality of the university makes our community more livable and more attractive to prospective residents and businesses. It also trains nurses and other health-care professionals, who give our health-care organizations and their patients the caregivers they need to ensure quality service today and in the future."

Mark A. Capobianco, Superintendent, Vestal Schools

Mark Capobianco"When I think of Binghamton University, I think about an outstanding institution that is a jewel in our community. The opportunities it provides make it an outstanding pick among the top choices for our most capable high school students."

Arthur Johnson, Commissioner, Broome County Department of Social Services and Department of Mental Health

Arthur Johnson"When I think of Binghamton University I think of innovation, excellence, leadership and diversity. Binghamton University provides the stimulus for many of the innovative business, workforce and human service solutions to our region's challenges."

Marybeth Smith, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton

Marybeth Smith"For the Boys & Girls Clubs of Binghamton, 'collaborative relationships' are far more than a convenience or perk to our agency. And while virtually every grant we apply for makes this component a key criterion for funding consideration, we consider it to be more than that.

Binghamton University is a living part of how we improve the present conditions of youth in need, and how we change their realistic outlook on the future expectations they have for themselves. In a multitude of programs and activities, our kids have interacted, one on one, with university students and personnel, and took with them a persuasive message that they are more. More than the economic poverty they inherited, or the ridicule that followed in school.

Time after time, they would rush to a staff member after an event held at the club and say, 'I want to be like her, I want to do what she will do! In many ways, like parents, we see them so frequently that our message becomes stale and forgettable, but not with them.

In the end, we really don't know what the final outcome will be from their connection to Binghamton University. What we do know, for sure, is that the kids are excited about their future because of these connections, and we are grateful for that."
